Hey Ya’ll! Hope you had a great Memorial Day!!!
I have gotten a lot of emails about my hair color. As some of you may know I am a hairstylist which is the only reason I am doing it at home by myself. I always recommend going to a salon if you are not a professional but I know that is not always an option.
I have done my own foils (highlights/lowlights) twice now, since the last time my girlfriend did them for me. But I am going back to NC in about 2 weeks and I am actually going to have her do them again to get it freshened up and cleaned up. You can only get to the back of your head so well.
As far as my color tho:
I do a retouch every 4 weeks.
Highlight and Lowlight every 8-12 weeks depending.
I used blondor and 20 vol or silver blonde icing and 20 vol for my highlights.
8/3 for my lowlight.
My color formula for my retouch is:
1oz 7av
1oz 9av
2oz 20 vol
I use Redken usually but every once in awhile I switch it up and use Wella.
What you need:
Color and Developer
Brush, Bowl, Comb, and Glove(s)
Oh, and I have no makeup on, sorry! It was one of those days! haha
I start on my part line and around my hairline. This gives those areas the most time to process and lets me start with clean sections. I do not section my hair but to make it easier part your hair into 4 quadrants. (Ear to Ear and Forehead to Nape)
Also, I overlap a little bit over my last retouch to ensure that I get all of my virgin hair colored. Its such a small about of pigment since the color is so light, it will not affect the previous color!
Once I am done, I comb the area around my crown down just a little bit to blend it in and give it more of a “rooty” natural look.
Example of 4 quadrants. It makes it easier to take your head in smaller sections so you do not get overwhelmed by the amount of hair!
I let my retouch process for 35 minutes!
My color looks different depending on the light! But you get the idea!
