Okay, now on to the DIY growth chart. When creating the boys a growth chart I was inspired by both Pottery Barn and Restoration Hardware and their growth charts that actually look like home decor. I wanted it to be a piece in their room that they could keep their entire childhood and that wouldn’t look dated as their room decor changed. That being said I did not want to spend a fortune on a piece of wood that I turned into a large ruler. I purchased a 6 ft smooth finished wood board from our local hardware store and measured out up to 6 feet. I also decided to keep in mind that I would not want to have to remove our baseboards so I subtracted the inches of that from the first foot I measured out on the board.
I used a pencil to mark all of the measurements and went back over it with a oversized black permanent marker. I also used number stencils to avoid making a mistake on the board when writing those as well.
As far as where to put the board, we have decided to hang it in the hallway in between both of the boys rooms. I currently have ordered dog tags for the boys stating their ages for example. Braydon 3 months, Braydon 9 months, Braydon 1 year, Braydon 2 years, etc. Also the same for Walker up until 10 years old. This way I can hang the tags at each spot on the growth chart depending on their height at that age.
Hope you guys love this idea! Let me know if you decide to make one yourself!
