Our Trip to Sicily

Hi guys!!! I have had a few of you ask why I haven’t posted much about our Italy trip yet and that is honestly due to lack of time. From the moment I got back to the US we were extremely busy and traveling back to Florida and then the entire family took turns getting sick! So, I finally made some time tonight to kind of just recap our trip.

By the way – I am currently prepping for Walker’s FIRST birthday on Saturday! What the heck, where did this year go?

Back to Italy. We went to several different places in Sicily but Taormina and Syracusa were my all time faves. So lets talk about the food first. HOLY COW! I am pretty sure I gained 15 pounds with no exaggeration at all. I literally ate pizza or pasta for every single meal except breakfast and breakfast was always an espresso and pastry. Basically, carb overload. I ordered a cafe Americano when I first got there thinking it would be like our coffee and it totally wasn’t. I had to seriously put in 4 sugar packets just to get it down to get the caffeine. So I stuck to espressos or cappuccinos the rest of the trip! My favorite meal embarrassingly was the spaghetti bolognese. Cliche I know, but really, I don’t know what they put in it but I would have dreams about it if I didn’t get it at least once a day. I have never had any spaghetti like it in America. I did try a lot of seafood dishes and they were also amazing. I wasn’t a fan of the cannoli but I was addicted to the tiramisu and all the different versions of it they had!

In both Taormina and Syracusa we stayed in AirBnBs and they were so awesome. I don’t know if we just got extremely lucky but we are now huge fans and I am not sure we will ever stay in a hotel again when we have the option!

The weather was gorgeous the entire time we were there but it was chilly, and COLD at night! Much cooler than our Florida weather we are used to.
