When I think of spring I think of fresh flowers, bright natural light, a clean house and floral smells. I love the smell of the windows open and fresh air, the warm breeze from the ocean and the color and smell of fresh flowers. I mentioned it a few posts ago, but I made a pledge to plant lots of fresh flowers and bushes around my yard that I could trim vs buying expensive fresh flowers at the market. So what are some steps you can take to prepare for spring this year? I have you covered..
1. Fresh indoor plants.
Fresh green plants and herbs around your home help clean your air. Rosemary is one of my favorites to have by my front door or near a window because of the amazing smell it puts off. I also love Pothos, Aloe, Jade Plant, and Areca Palms. The Pothos is one of the best for purifying your air of formaldehyde and other toxins.
2. Outdoor Garden.
As I said above. Plant fresh flowers around your yard that are easy to clip to bring a bit of spring indoors. Some of my favorites are hydrangeas, peonies, tulips, lilies and white roses. These all make beautiful arrangements for inside your home and also a great way to dress up your front or back yard.
3. Change your air filters.
Dust, odors and allergens get caught in your air filter causing your eyes to itch, dust to build up and sometimes even leaving your house smelling – well, you know – smelly. We change our air vents every 30 days (I just mark it on the calendar to remind me.) Also, the longer in between you wait to change your filters the harder your AC has to work to get air through it! All of us home owners know how expensive AC can run per month and even worse, what it would cost to replace your AC if it died due to over working.
4. Clean your carpets.
You know when you walk into a room and it just smells fresh and clean? Yes, I am kind of addicted to that smell and once our bedrooms loose that freshness I know it is time for a deep clean. I was so tired of paying professional carpet cleaning companies every spring so we knew an at home carpet cleaner machine would be a great investment. Not to mention – we would be able to clean our carpets multiple times a year. We got ours from BISSELL.COM but you can also get it at Walmart.
The new BISSELL ProHeat 2X Revolution Pet helps you tackle even the toughest stains. It has two cleaning settings, the deep clean mode for tougher stains and the express clean mode—leaving carpets dazzling and dry in just one hour. I tend to do the deep clean unless I know the boys will be needing to get into their rooms sooner rather than later. I do love the express clean mode for a quick freshen before we have company in town as well! Our BISSELL ProHeat 2x Revolution Pet Cleaner is lightweight, and it’s maneuverable body will leave carpets looking and smelling springtime-fresh. For those of you who have pets with little bladders like ours that tend to have accidents now and then, you absolutely need the Pet Oxy Boost carpet cleaning formula enhancer designed to permanently remove tough pet stains, guaranteed. We use the BISSELL Carpet Cleaning Formulas with Scotchgard™ to keep carpets looking newer, longer by cleaning, restoring and protecting carpet.
5. Switch out your decor.
This is one of my favorite things. It doesn’t have to be anything major, although, shopping for home decor is one of my favorite things. But just by switching out your placemats and table settings to lighter or more colorful pieces. If you have heavy curtains, use a pretty rope to tie them to the side and let in more light. Switch out your throw pillows on your couch and if you want to be super crazy – you can even switch out your duvet covers on your beds to lighten and brighten up your bedrooms!
