Hi Guys!! This post has been a long time coming. It has been one of my MOST requested blog posts via DM’s, comments, and emails from you all. So I am here to lay it ALL out there. Before I get started. If lip injections are not your thing- I completely get it, as some things others do are not necessarily by thing. In my personal opinion – lip injections are about as serious as botox is to some, and as makeup is to others. With any of these – you are slightly altering your looks to make yourself feel better and none of them are permanent. So, if you were completely against them before, maybe I convinced you to at least hear me out!
I was blessed with small lips – do I think it is a flaw? Absolutely not – but with today’s trends of Kylie Jenner Lips being all the rage – of course I wanted my pout to look for youthful and plump.
How did I choose my dentist, esthetician, or plastic surgeon to do this? I wanted it to be someone I could trust obviously. If this is going to be affecting my face for 6 months I need to know I can trust who ever is performing the service on me. After many hours on Facebook, messaging friends who have gotten them in the past, and reading reviews all over the internet I decided to go with Dr. Weibe of Smileology Santa Rosa Beach. Dr. Weibe is a dentist located conveniently close to where we live. But even if it is a little bit of a drive for you, I promise its worth it. Plus – her office is so stinking cute and newly renovated.
When I arrived I sat down with Dr. Weibe and her nurse to talk about what my overall end goal was. What I told her I wanted was a little added volume in the top so my smile wasn’t quite as gummy as well as a little volume in the bottom center. I specially mentioned that I wanted my lips to get more narrow as they moved to the corners of my mouth. Giving it a more natural look and not quite so Kylie Jenner looking. Overall I wanted to look more plump but didn’t want to turn heads with my lips. Lol.
Before::
You can see here my gummy smile. I didn’t hate it but was ready for a change.
During::
When we were getting started, Dr. Weibe warned me some people swell more than others and some people bruise more than others. Depending on your body. I was ABSOLUTELY a sweller but my bruising wasn’t awful and was easily covered with lipstick. I am glad she warned me of this prior to receiving the injections though, because I might have worried if not. One of my most commonly asked questions is “Did it hurt?” Well, not necessarily. She put on a numbing cream and let it sit for 20 minutes before giving me the injections – ya’ll this is key. Because, I know for a fact I would have been in tears without the numbing cream!! I highly recommend this magical cream to anyone who is considering lip injections.
Dr. Weibe then injected the Juviderm into my lips. She took her time with each injection and massaged it to work it into my lips each time. She then again reminded me that they were going to begin swelling a bit and I may see bruising in a day or two. She also said to keep in mind Juviderm is very forgiving and until it heals can be a little lumpy (which mine was) but once it has healed completely it would all smooth out. Patience is key here.
Moments After::
As you can see I had a little spot that bled more than others on my bottom lip and I was starting to swell a bit already. My lips were still numb so there was no pain involved. (Even though I look like I got hit by a truck. lol)
One hour after with lipstick on::
Numbing was starting to wear off. They were a little sore and it was hard to drink out of a straw or eat larger bites that would put pressure on my lips. The pain subsided by the end of the next day though.
1 Day Later:
As you can see there was still some swelling. Very minor pain and a few small bruises. Nothing major tho – I could have easily covered it with some lipstick. You can also see the top lip was a bit lumpy – my bottom lit never really got that way.
One Week Later::
Top lip is still lumpy and other than the major change in lighting, you can also see a pretty big difference in my lips. They were still swollen but not to the point that I couldn’t leave the house.
(The top is before the bottom is after one week)
This is at one week as well – at my ‘post op’ checkup.
One Month Later::
As you can see – my lips have officially stopped swelling and my lumps are all nicely smoothed out! I am absolutely thrilled with the way they look and will absolutely do them again in the future! This time will be even easier because I know exactly what to expect. You can see in the top picture my gummy smile is now gone and on the bottom picture I have just a bit more of a natural looking pout!
