Each year when I head to NYFW I wonder if I will still feel the same way I did my first year there. In awe. In awe of the hustle and bustle of the city. In awe of sitting in my seat before shows watching all of the other attendees, celebrities, and designers taking their seats. In awe of sitting in ubers and cabs and traffic watching everyone rush from one meeting to the next and in and out of office buildings. Every year, it never fails, I am always in awe. I like to take time to soak it all in, put my phone down and just watch it all happen. NYC is by no means a location I would be fit to live in – I am just not that fast pace or aggressive enough. But, it is absolutely one of my favorite places to visit every year.
This year is one of the first years I didn’t stay long enough to be in the city for 9/11. I usually like to take time each year on 9/11 or the night before to go down to the memorial and pay respects as well as just take it all in and remember that sad day in 2001 that we will never forget. I wanted to rush home to the kids and I am still breast feeding Charli and had saved up milk for her so I also didn’t want to be gone to long for that reason. Also, with Hurricane Irma on it’s way to us at the time – I wanted to be with the family as we prepared our home for the storm.
On my first day in the city, we arrived around noon and checked into our hotel The Double Tree by Hilton in Times Square. It was such an ideal location in regards to getting to meetings, showrooms, and shows. It is also a great location if your visiting and wanting to head to Times Square, the Empire State building, etc. They also had a great rooftop that overlooked the city which had an adorable rooftop bar. For my day outfit, I actually wore my travel outfit all day until we changed for dinner. I wore comfortable tennis shoes in the airport but changed to block heel booties when we got to the city for my meetings. I went for a casual chic look with cut off shorts and a V-neck tee. Dressing it up with a floral bomber jacket. I am LOVING floral bomber jackets this fall! These jean shorts are so comfortable but I do recommend going up one size!
