It is a common misconception that you need to apply more makeup when you are looking and feeling tired. Trust me – there are nights I am up with one of the boys most the night because of a bad dream or they aren’t feeling well. Unfortunately for mom, I still do not get to sleep in or much less, even take a nap during the day. This causes me to have to ‘fake it til I make it’ and by that I mean – make sure I look as fresh and alert as possible.
On days that I am tired or feeling a little blah I try to wear a lot less makeup. I actually do my face makeup the same as I always do but I apply my eye makeup much differently. See below for a step by step tutorial.
Step 1. Keep your eyeshadow colors to a minimum and choose the lightest colors your skin can handle. Since it is winter and I am fair skinned I was able to chose the lightest color on the Maybelline 24k Nudes palette for my lid and under my brow and the 3rd lightest color for a little blending in at my crease. The light color allows your eye lid to look brighter as well as stand out more. It makes your eyes look fuller and healthier as well. I blended in the dark crease just to give a little shape to my eye and to give my eye some contrast causing it to look like my eyelid juts out just a bit more.
Step 2. I love the Maybelline Eye Studio Master Precise Liquid Eyeliner because of its ultra thin felt tip. I like that it is a stiff brush which allows for me to easily draw a thin line as well as get a thin clean wing. I do not wing my eyeliner every time I do this look but I did today for a little more dramatic effect for the photos. I also do this if I have any sort of photo shoot because I feel like it draws my eyes upwards. On some days I do only line my lash line. This gives my eyes a more dramatic pop without being too much. If your line gets too thick or if you line the bottom lash line your eye will appear more closed.
Step 3. Before I apply my mascara I always curl my eyelashes. My eyelashes grow straight out vs. up so it is important for me to curl them allowing people to see more of the white of my eyes. I love the Maybelline Express The Colossal Big Shot Mascara because the wavy bristles seem to grip my lashes really well allowing me to start at the root and wiggle upwards coating all of my lashes. I typically put on 4-5 coats/passes, dipping it in the mascara tube twice. On my final coat I push all the lashes towards the inner corner of my eye. For me, I feel like this makes my lashes look even longer!
Let me know if you try any of these tips to help yourself look more refreshed! I would love to hear if it works for you too!
