One question that I am typically surprised when I give out my business cards to other bloggers or at blogging events is “Oh, I didn’t realize I needed business cards – do you give yours out a lot?” Well, my answer is yes – at least a few a week and at events I hand out 20-50 depending on the size of the event!
You know when you meet someone and you have a great connection with them but the next morning you wake up and can’t remember anything other than the cute girl in the pink dress at the appetizer table? That is why business cards are so great. It not only reminds them of meeting you but they can find multiple ways to contact you after an exhausting event of meeting 25+ people! If it were not for business cards I would remember about 5 people of the 40 people I meet at have conversations with at NYFW.
So, now that I have convinced you that yes, you do need business cards – you are running a business aren’t you? The next step is to decide where to get them and what to order! I have been through 3 different business card designs in the 4 years I have been blogging. That was either due to updating my domain, running out, or just being over the old ones!
One of the first things you need to look for is quality! I ALWAYS chose the extra thick option when choosing a business card. You want it to feel like a credit card in someones pocket or to stand out in their wallet or clutch. I got my business cards from basicinvite.com. I love the quality of their Double Thick Matte option. ‘This ultra-thick paper features a creamy white hue and cotton texture. It prints vibrant colors and beautiful photographs, making it top of the line for when you want to make a standout impression.’
From there chose what layout you prefer. I would suggest either including your logo or an image of yourself or one you have taken and featured on your blog. This shows them a little bit about your style almost as if it was the smallest portfolio you could give them. I went with an image over my logo – mostly because sometime in the year of 2017 I think I am going to have my logo re-designed, but also because I feel like it makes the card look more custom. I chose a photo that showcased my style, my love of colors and my love of the beach (also, where I live).
What else should your business cards include as a blogger? Your full name! So many people I meet at events say “Oh yes! Your @lipstickheelsandababy!” While I love that they remember my instagram/blog name and my branding I also what them to know me as a person so make sure to include that so when they get home they can refer to you as both your name and blog name. Next time I will be “Jessica Fay of @lipstickheelsandababy.” 😉
I also always include my blog domain, email address and social media handle. I also like to include a quick summary of my blog which is the “Fashion, Beauty and Lifestyle Blog” for brands or other people I may meet that aren’t also bloggers.
