Instant Tan/ Body Makeup
While I do not personally own the body blur, I have tested out a friend’s on my arm and I find this to be the exact same for a fraction of the cost. I only use this when I know I won’t be getting wet, ie – I ALWAYS wear this in Miami for Swim Week on my legs and it is also great to hide any veins or bruises on your legs as well! Don’t worry, it won’t start running if you get splashed or anything – but it will come off if you go swimming!
The spray comes out thinner, but I always still have to rub it in to blend it. The lotion seems to be a little cleaner and easier to apply – plus you can dilute it with regular lotion if you want! I use color medium.
Natural Tan
I was immediately intrigued when this came in a PR package. The thought of putting a clear solution, ‘Tanning Water‘ on just seemed amazing…and what is even more amazing – is it works!! I have even been daring enough to put this on and wear WHITE JEANS, and it never bled through. I couldn’t believe it! Plus, this one is so much easier to get a streak-free finish!
So – I use this if I want to be able to throw on my PJs and go straight to bed – or if I want to be able to go about my day without looking like an Oompa Loompa while the tan sets in. It doesn’t get as dark as the other two I am about to tell you about – but if you put it on daily for a few days in a row, you could absolutely build up to that darker color. It does have a little bit of that self tan smell, especially if you sweat – but to me, it is totally worth it for the natural pretty glow it gives my skin for 4-5 days! I really am thoroughly impressed with this product!
Spray Tan:
If I had it my way – Shelby Herron Beauty would come and spray me in my home in her pop up tint every single week. But, I am not a celebrity or a millionaire – so that just isn’t realistic. So, this is the next best thing – especially for those of you who do not live here!! I love this because this is the only tanning product I can get a flawlessly smooth finish on my face, feet, and hands! I can never get it perfect myself on my hands and feet with any of the foams or lotions, this spray makes it so much easier and it comes out very evenly. Although, I have mastered the streak-free application for the rest of my body!!
I love the airbrush finish this leaves on your skin and that it immediately comes out dark so you can see how you are doing on the spray job! It does rub off on your clothes – but it has always come out with Tide Detergent! It has never stained anything. So, if your local to 30A or in town – book Shelby, if not or want to do it yourself – order here! Oh, this one is the one you see on me anytime I was pregnant with Charli or the summer after! My sprays with this last 5-6 days!
Espresso Dark Gel
Okay, so this double shot gel is DARK, I mean dark..but I LOVE it when I am going to be in a bathing suit or taking lots of pictures – but if you’re a really white, white girl – I do not recommend this one for you. The gel is thicker and harder to blend in, but it immediately feels dry and I can put my clothes on pretty quickly after this one, which is a bonus…taking care of three kids half naked with a wet spray tan..yeah..well, it sucks. So, I love the gel for that reason. This one also smells like coffee – and I never get the self-tan smell after this one, which is another bonus!!
In a nutshell – these three are my ultimate go-tos for self-tanning at home!!
Okay, so all of those others in the picture you saw at the top of this post- I tried them all. I have been testing these for over two months now. None of them were amazing to me. The products mentioned in the post above are the ones that stood out to me and the ones I will use on repeat. I do love the St. Tropez, but for that price – it was just okay. But, I would still recommend it! The only product I absolutely did not like and wouldn’t recommend is the Ten Minute Tan on the left side of the image. It doesn’t work – at all (at least it didn’t for me)…and you just smell after – this is the same brand that makes the body blur.

Do you have a tanning mitt that you can recommend?

Thank you for this. I am always on the look out for a good self tanner. I really liked the Jergen’s Natural Glow as it builds up as you use it over time. But my husband doesn’t like the smell of it. I honestly don’t think it is a very overpowering smell but he has a super sensitive nose. It is also nice to be moisturizing while you are applying a self tanner. So I am back to the beginning looking for my next HG. So I will definitely give your suggestions a try, it can’t hurt.
