As many of you already know. I have two full time jobs. My first and most important job is being a mom to our three sweet babies. My second full time job is my blog – which I really enjoy doing. That being said, I am only one person and can only be in one place at once. Which means lots of late nights working after the kids are in bed as well as working any free moment I get. I often get questions about how I time manage and do both things “full time” so I am here to share with you some tips that I try to live by!
- Have a Schedule: I have to tell you – my number one tip is honestly the hardest one for me personally. I am not a schedule type of person. I find that I am scatterbrained, typically unorganized, and get distracted extremely easily. That being said – I will set a tentative schedule for the next day the night before and then set timers for myself.
For example my alarms include:
6:30am – wake up
9:00am – Take Walker to school – you’re late!
9:30am – Make your ACV Drink, get Charli set up for tummy time and sit down to work on emails.
11:00am – Stop Shopping, work lady!
12:00 pm – Grab Lunch, put Charli down for a nap, sit down to work on more emails, sales, and blog posts.
1:00pm – Work out if you didn’t get time to before you took Walker to school – if not shower and get ready! (Yep – most days I don’t get ready until after lunch #momlife)
…etc. You get the point – and it keeps me on track!
- Work during nap time: I mentioned this in the post above but sometimes it’s not easy while checking on the baby, especially since Charli is about to start pulling up and is starting to want to roll over in her sleep. This task has been made SO much easier with my new Summer Infant Baby PixelTM 5.0 Inch Touchscreen Color Video Monitor. The monitor has a SleepZone™ Virtual Boundary. This innovative new technology helps alleviate some of those naptime & nighttime worries! Set a boundary box around baby’s safe space to alert you when your child exits their immediate surroundings. Whether your child rolls into a corner or is plotting an escape, the sound alert will help you to keep baby safe. This literally has been a dream for us. If I wake up in the middle of the night or get into the zone while working I can quickly check on Charli and the boys and immediately be relieved and/or running to the rescue. I also love this because it notifies me if the boys are getting out of the bed to run to our room and crawl in our bed so I do not wake up to 2 or sometimes 4 little beady eyes staring at me while I sleep like some sort of horror movie. Ha! It’s funny how they always seem to come to my side of the bed and just sit there and stare at me while gently tapping my hand – never Ryan’s side! This being said – this monitor can connect with up to 4 cameras! So you do not need 4 different screens to check on each of your children. Unless, you have 10 kids of course. Oh, and one last feature we love about this is the temperature monitor. Charli’s room is the addition that we put on our house and it sometimes can be cooler or warmer than the rest of the house. The temperature gage allows me to make sure she is comfortable all night long.
3. Have a team player for a husband: This is so important because there are many days that my day doesn’t go as planned. I may not get all the photos shot that I needed to or have been able to make a dent in my emails. After dinner he plays with the boys and tries to give me an hour or two in my office to shut the door and just work. During these times I do not even take my phone in with me so I do not get distracted. I realize this is not always an option – my husband actually travels a lot for work and so I tend to work late on nights he’s out of town and skip binge watching shows (since that is something him and I do together to relax and unwind.
4. Work after the kids and hubs are asleep: If I have a major deadline – I spend time with my hubs and kids in the evenings and once they all go to bed, I work. Sometimes Ryan will stay up late with me and binge watch some sort of History or Science show that I would never want to watch with him while I work to keep me company.
5.Take time off for yourself and your family: This is so important. You do not want to get burnt out. I usually take weekends completely off. Sometimes I will work on a Sunday evening for a few hours but you will never catch me working on a Saturday anytime or Sunday morning. This is my time to unwind, relax, and spend time with my family.
6. Meal Prep: This is the ONLY way I keep from eating Chick- fil- A every single day. I mean – I would love to do that but let’s get real, after three kids and with age – it gets harder and harder to stay in shape. I prep meals that will last me 2-3 days so I can just grab them quickly and work from my desk while I am eating.
