Thank you eBay for sponsoring this post. All opinions are my own.
Hello my friends!!! Today’s blog post is all about sharing tips on how I score designer items for less on eBay. Trust me when I say, I used to be skeptical too – but I have to admit, I kind of consider myself a pro at finding the most quality and authentic pieces at the best price. It took a little bit of time to master, but I would say this is one of those things I now have ‘in the bag!’
What are my top 5 things I look at when buying new or gently used designer items on eBay?
1- Know the exact item you are looking for.
For example, this Tory Burch crossbody. I knew the exact bag I wanted. The style number, the name, and the details. But if you are just looking for a general Tory Burch Crossbody you could search ‘Tory Burch leather crossbody‘. Or you can get a little more specific, ‘Tory Burch McGraw Leather Crossbody‘, or as detailed as ‘Tory Burch McGraw Leather Round Crossbody in Devon Sand.‘ Take advantage for filters to help weed out any unwanted or dupe items. I also prefer to purchase ‘Buy it Now’ options, but if you get a joy out of bidding – go for it!!
2- Read the sellers reviews.
I personally do not like to be the first buyer of a seller, but at the same time, everyone has to start somewhere. If you click on the seller, you can read reviews, see their star rating and see how many items they have sold.
3- Go check the items the seller is selling.
If you are looking to buy a new or gently used pair of Valentinos and the seller just so happens to have every single size available. Odds are – something is off. Typically, sellers have purchased an item, used it and now are selling it as gently used. Or, they purchased an item – it didn’t fit right, or they decided they did not like it.
4- Know your brand’s hallmarks of authenticity.
What should the zipper and other hardware items look like? Should it have it’s own serial # located somewhere inside or on the item. Is there a certain color of thread that the tag should be sewn on with? An authentic Gucci logo cotton t-shirt has a red stitch at the top corners of the Gucci tag in the neck line. A replica or dupe typically does not. Also, on a replica Gucci tee – the ® seems a bit squished compared to the original. Regardless – if you are looking for a great dupe – they have those too!
5- Pay attention to quality photos.
Are they in focus? If the item is new, is it in its original packaging? Is hardware wrapped in plastic or tissue paper? Can you clearly see the logos and stitching? Something I have noticed on designer items. If it is a dupe – the G on Gucci, H on Hermes, C on Chanel tend to be a different font. Also, as I mentioned above, the stitching may be a different color. The size tag may be a different color and the stitching of the items may be a little off.
So, if you have to inspect your items before you shop designers on eBay why shop there? eBay has spring trends you crave from brands you love for less, way less! Like Gucci, Tory Burch, Anthropologie, Free People, Zara, Madewell, Adidas, J.Crew, Gap, Topshop, Prada, Chloe and more. Plus, you cam get free shipping and buy items instantly with a single click—no auction required. And, on top of that, 85% of all clothing, shoes, accessories, jewelry and beauty products on eBay are brand-new! Although, I tend to buy NWT (new with tag) items, I LOVE finding a good gently used designer item for way less!
Have you checked out or shopped with eBay lately? What was your best purchase? I would love to hear other designers I should hunt for on eBay Fashion!
